Below is a quick update! at the end of this post is a link to a quick survey. Please take just a few minutes to fill out this survey and give us your input on the profile of the next Pastor at Discover Point church.

Hey, Discover Point Church! September has come and gone and took summer with it. Now, we
are getting ready for pumpkin spice everything and waiting for cooler temperatures. As a
church, we had a great September. We started off the month with a new series called “Better
Together”. Throughout this series, you have a had the opportunity to connect more to our
church through Next Steps Track, life groups, serving, and missions. We have had 17 people
express interest in Next Steps Track, 8 people show interest in life groups, 4 people wanting to
connect to a DP Team, and 34 people show interest in the mission project. My hope is that
even though this series is coming to an end, we will continue to see more and more people
connect in these areas because we are “Better Together.”
The other big thing that happened in September was our church anniversary celebration at
Brooks Lake. The turnout was amazing. We estimated that we had about 150 people attend,
and the desserts were amazing. Thank you to those that came and participated, and thank you
to those who helped set up, cook food, serve food, organize games, clean up, etc. Again, we
are “Better Together.” September was great, and I anticipate that October will be just as great.
In addition to all of the great things that happened in our church, our staff was able to get away
for a few days for a retreat. In the past, we have always gone in October, but the calendar did
not work out to do it this year. With that being said, we were able to take this time away and
pray as a staff for our church and for each other. We were also able to plan the church
calendar for next year. In addition to those things, we were able to refocus on the mission of
Discover Point Church: to connect people to their next step of life change in Christ. We looked
at our ministries and events and discussed how each connects to that mission, and if it doesn’t
connect, how do we fix it. We also took the Enneagram Test, an in depth personality
assessment, so that we can learn how to work with each other better. Another topic of
discussion was health: health of our church (growth, function, communication, etc.), health of
our staff as a whole (working together, communicating, planning, etc.), and health individually
(how we react, how we communicate, how we work, etc.). As we prepare for a new Pastor, we
need to make sure that we remain healthy as a church, as a staff, and as individuals.
As we prepared for staff retreat this year, we all agreed to have a conversation about “good vs.
great.” In other words, what things are we doing that are good and need to be great and what
are we doing that is great. As God began to work in each of us that week, we were all
challenged that the conversation goes deeper than “good vs. great” and that we should be
“better before bigger.” So, we decided that we would like to focus on three things this next
year: Sunday morning and all that goes into that, life groups, and next steps. Our desire as a
staff is to do these three things really well and to have the discipline and patience to see it
through.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, “A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can
stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily
