RHYTHMS - Week 1
There is nothing more important in life than Knowing God.
Jeremiah 9:23-24 This is what the Lord says: The wise person should not boast in his wisdom; the strong should not boast in his strength; the wealthy should not boast in his wealth. But the one who boasts should boast in this: that he understands and knows me— that I am the Lord, showing faithful love, justice, and righteousness on the earth, for I delight in these things. This is the Lord’s declaration. (CSB)
Daniel 11:32 ...the people who know their God will be strong and will resist him. (NLT)
Philippians 3:8,10 More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord... My goal is to know him...” (CSB)
John 17:3 This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent —Jesus Christ. (CSB).
2 Peter 3:18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (NLT)
1 Corinthians 3:1 Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in Christ. (NLT)
“Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life's problems fall into place of their own accord.” - J.I. Packer
Exodus 33:11-13 Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent. Moses said to the Lord, “See, you say to me, ‘Bring up this people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’ Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. Consider too that this nation is your people.” (ESV)
Knowing God brings Intimacy
Psalms 103:7 He revealed his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel. (CSB)
“One of the great problems in today's churches is that we have many who know about God but few who know God intimately. How sad it will be in the resurrection to meet a God face to face that we have not known heart to heart.” - Adrian Rogers
We have been invited to Know God, through the Cross.
John 17:3 This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent —Jesus Christ. (CSB).
Knowing God through the New Covenant is way better than what
Moses had through the Old Covenant.
2 Corinthians 3:6-11 He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life. The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away. Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life? If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God! In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way. So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever! (NLT)
God would speak to Moses Face to Face as a friend. Through Jesus we have all been made friends of God.
John 15:15 I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant doesn’t know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from my Father. (CSB)
Moses had to go to a tent of meeting but through Jesus, we now have access to God at anytime.
Ephesians 2:18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. (ESV)
Matthew 11:28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (MSG)
