1 Corinthians 12:27
27 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.

Matthew 4:19
19 And he said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of people”.
3 Characteristics of the Body of Christ
The Body of Christ is connected.
Romans 12:4-5
4 For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, 5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.
The Body of Christ is gifted.
Romans 12:6-8
6 We have gifts that differ according to the grace given us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; 7 ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching; 8 the exhorter, in exhortation; the giver, in generosity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness.
The Body of Christ is mission minded.
Acts 1:8
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and your will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
3 Aspects of the Body of Christ in Action
The church’s mission is to tell the good news, the story of God’s love in Jesus Christ.
Acts 1:21-22
21 So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22 beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us – one of the these must become a witness with us to his resurrection.
The church’s mission is not only to tell the good news, but also be a community that reflects God’s love.
Acts 2:43-47
43 Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. 44 All who believed were together and had all things in common; 45 they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.
The church’s service is to offer hospitality to the lonely, healing to the sick in body, mind and spirit, food to the hungry and to extend Christ’s outreach to those who live without hope.
Matthew 25:35 - 40
35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me. 37 Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that you sick or in prison and visited? 40 And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”
