G.O.A.T.
Do You Want to Be Great?

Why is Jesus the GOAT?
1. The Cross
2. The Resurrection
3. His Miracles
4. His willingness to Forgive and show us how to forgive.
5. He was a Servant

John 13:1
Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end.

Col. 1:13-14
For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

Ephesians 1:7
He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.

John 13:2
It was time for supper, and the devil had already prompted Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.

John 13:4
4 So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin.

John 13:5b
Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet…

Christians forget one of the reasons they are here on earth is to serve.

Saved People Serve People

We have become consumers when we ought to become servants.

We are more concerned about what our church can do for us than what we can do for our church. Church has lost its priority with a lot of believers.

Mark 10:42-45
42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Whoever wants to be great among you must be a servant!

Even the son of man did not come to be served but to serve….

John 13:6-8
6 When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
7 Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.”
8 “No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!” Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.”

John 13:9
Simon Peter exclaimed, “Then wash my hands and head as well, Lord, not just my feet!”

Jesus is teaching 2 great truths.

1. We are Called to Serve People.

John 13:12-15
12 After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? 13 You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15 I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.

Serving is not an option. It’s an opportunity to be like Jesus!

2. We Need to Keep our Feet Clean.

John 13:10
Jesus replied, “A person who has bathed all over does not need to wash, except for the feet, to be entirely clean. And you disciples are clean, but not all of you.”

1 John 1:9
9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

Serve and Confess
