GO2020 - Week 1

Nov 10, 2019    Jeremy Ross

DEFINITION OF A MISSION:
• An important assignment carried out for political, religious, or commercial purposes, typically involving travel
• The vocation or calling of a religious organization, especially a Christian one, to go out into the world and spread its faith.

MISSION OF DISCOVER POINT CHURCH
• To connect people to their next step of life change in Christ
• This also includes being the one to connect others to their next step, not just discovering our own next step

GET INVOLVED
• To support a mission you have to actively be a part of executing the vision

Matthew 28:19
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

• Jesus didn’t command a select few of the disciples to “Go.” He told all of them to go

DP MISSIONS
• Here – Local to our city and counties
• Near – Missions within the United States
• Far – Over seas trips/”Foreign missions”

DON’T WAIT UNTIL YOU THINK YOU ARE READY

1 Corinthians 1:26-28
Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise.

And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.

LESSONS LEARNED FROM MY FAR MISSION TRIPS
• Australia
• I don’t have to be “wise” in the world’s eyes to share Him with others
• Zimbabwe
• There are people who have never even heard about Christ that know that He is real
• Honduras
• When things go “wrong” God will still show up
• Broken down truck
• Got sick one day
• Lesson from all trips
• God will use your obedience to build your relationship with Him
• You may get more out of a trip than you give

ARE YOUR FEET BEAUTIFUL?

Romans 10:14-15
But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him?

And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”

• We are all called to be the hands and feet of the body of Christ. How will you get involved
