Java Point

Java Point baristas play a vital role in both welcoming our guests and creating a community environment for our regular guests and attendees.  Nothing can be more welcoming than a smiling face and a hot cup of coffee!

Opening Checklist

Arrive at Java Point by 8:00am
Turn on the two commercial coffee makers, by flipping the switch on the back of the machine and then turning on the button on the front of the machine.

Recipes

Wait for the Green light to come on before starting to make coffee
Meanwhile set out the syrups, coffee cups, stirrers, lids and sleeves
Fill the sugar and creamer containers 
Make 1 carafe of coffee for Volunteer Connections and 2 for Java Point
Fill one carafe with hot water to be used for hot chocolate

Hot Coffee

Once the green light on the coffee makers turns on, start making coffee in the carafe using  3/4 cup of coffee per cycle.  (It takes 2 cycles to fill the large coffee carafes)

Cold Brew Coffee

Cold brew coffee is made the previous week and is in the refrigerator under the Java Point counter.  
At the end of service make two new pitchers
3 scoops of coffee, fill with cold water 3/4 full, shake and place in refrigerator

Sweet Cream Cold Brew

To make Sweet Cream Cold Brew:  put a 1/2 inch of whipping cream and 1 squirt syrup into a large clear plastic cup and stir until it becomes liquid, then add cold brew coffee.

Hot Cocoa

To make hot cocoa - add 3 tablespoons of cocoa mix to a cup then add hot water from the Carafe that has hot water.

Seasonal Drinks

Butterscotch Cappuccino

Add 1 Squirt of Butterscotch Syrup to the cup
Add 2 squirts of Butterscotch Syrup to the pitcher for the frother
Fill the Frother the rest of the way to the minimum fill line with milk
Set the pitcher on the frother stand and make sure it is set to Thin Warm Froth, then press start
While Milk is frothing (this will take up to 2 min), Fill the cup 2/3 with Coffee
Add Froth to fill the cup
Sprinkle 1 tsp of butterscotch pieces on top of the froth
You can use the leftover froth for a second cappuccino
Then rinse the pitcher for the frother
DO NOT SUBMERGE IN WATER AND TRY TO KEEP THE OUTSIDE DRY

Closing Checklist


  • Turn off coffee machines
  • Empty and clean carafes and leave them to dry on the mats beside the coffee makers
  • Rinse frother and dry with a clean paper towel, unplug the base from the wall
  • Put away syrups, cups, stirrers, lids, sugar and creamer
  •  Make 2 pitchers of cold brew coffee
  • Empty cooler and throw remaining ice in sink
  • Clean counters, tables and chairs
