In the summer of 2004 God impressed upon our lead Pastor that he and his family were to start a new church that would reach new people somewhere in the US. As God built a team around Philip it became clear, that Atlanta and more specifically Rockdale County was the area. After a lot of praying, fundraising, team building, strategic planning, and relationship building, Discover Point Church became a reality in the Fall of 2005. The idea behind Discover Point Church is that new churches reach new people. We didn’t want other people’s church members we longed to see those not connected to Jesus make that step.
We began with all bi-vocational staff and volunteers giving of their time and passions to make the church as effective as possible. It’s interesting to note that we opened that first Sunday in the Carmike Movie Theater and stayed there for a year and a half.
During this time we learned what the DNA of our church was. We learned that God is bigger than us and we could depend on Him. We then moved to Peachtree Academy Private School
10 and were at this location for 2 years. This move helped us depend on each other. We became more unified as a church. We had some obstacles to overcome during that period and people stepped up to the task.
Our location is on Parker Road. We have not forgotten that our church’s reason for existing is to be relevant as we lead our generation to God. We want to be a church that goes to the community as well as having a place for the community to come.
In the future we plan on expanding to multiple campuses, starting new churches, living out the great commission, and trying to live balanced lives for Jesus. Our story is changing every day because God is real and at work in the lives of his followers. Thanks for taking the time to learn about our story.
